President: Jonathan Goldbergbelle

Jonathan is serving his second year as President of Sister City Association of Springfield. He joined the Sister City Association Board in 1999 and served for 6 years. He rejoined the board in 2011. He first traveled to Ashikaga in 2000 with the Mayoral delegation celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the sister city relationship. He has also traveled to San Pedro with a high school and citizen delegation. He has previously served the SCAS board as Secretary and Vice President. Jonathan is the Director of Study Away Programs at the University of Illinois at Springfield. He established a university connection between UIS and Ashikaga University (formerly the Ashikaga Institute of Technology) in 2000 and the two institutions have been exchanging students on short term programs since 2001. In that capacity Jonathan has visited Ashikaga close to 20 times over the years and has hosted students and faculty from Ashikaga University on a regular basis. Jonathan also serves on the Springfield Commission for International Visitors.

Treasurer: Jonathan Pierce, PhD

Dr. Pierce joined the organization as a member on May 4, 2023 and in September was approved to serve as the Treasurer. Dr. Pierce currently serves as the Assistant Director of International Recruitment at University of Illinois Springfield, and in his previous institution, traveled to China, India, and United Arab Emirates to establish international student recruitment and university partnerships. He and his family enjoy all types of outdoors activities including hiking, biking, and vacationing in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. He is married to Mary for nearly 41 years, and they have three grown children and four grandchildren who all live in Kansas City, MO.
